I am sometimes asked why I chose the field of Social Work and Counseling as a career. As I think about the question, I realize that my life in this field started many years ago. I was taught by my parents to always be available to help others and I remember working in various church activities when I was a child. As a young mother, I was a foster parent and in 10 years of fostering I helped care for 175 children. Soon after this I was a single parent of two children with disabilities; one of them being terminally ill. This taught me patience and compassion for others and as I pursue my education, it seemed only natural that I would have a career in some type of human service job. Social Work and Counseling seemed the perfect fit for me. At this stage of my life I am reminded that Christ taught us that as we grow older we are to instruct younger. At McGuire Christian Counseling I have the perfect opportunity to teach young mothers how to care for a family, young couples how to enrich their marriage and children how to meet the challenges of life. I consider myself blessed to have the opportunity to serve our clients.
